Emergency responders will have the skills and knowledge required for certification to Chapter 7, "Confined Space Rescue, " as described in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications (2008 edition), including the areas of confined space rescue operations, utilizing appropriate equipment, methodologies, protocol’s, and patient and resource management techniques. Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the required written and skills test will receive a certification as a confined space rescuer. Valuable information is provided regarding OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI standards and compliance issues. The curriculum meets and exceeds requirements for rescue training in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 "Permit Required Confined Spaces for General Industry." Due to the process of skills and written testing students must have completed NFPA 1006 Chapter 5 General Requirement Training. Due to the nature of this training, a physical examination is recommended prior to this course.
The LNG Program will enhance hands-on spill control and fire suppression training to personnel involved in LNG production, transportation, storage, and response activities. Students are given the opportunity to learn about the properties of LNG and how it burns, as well as receives hands-on practice using proven techniques for extinguishing an LNG fire. The program is aimed at front-line emergency fire supervisors and responders, LNG project coordinators and facility managers who may be faced with an escape of LNG vapor or liquid, though the chances of such an occurrence is low.
This course provides a base from which to prepare students for a wide variety of possible rescue operations. Based on objectives from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1006 - Rescue Technician, Chapter 3, this course includes an overview in areas of specialized rescue, search, technical rescue management, risks and priorities; use of ropes, knots, and rope systems in a low angle environment, and establishment of landing zones for helicopter operations. Demonstrations, practice sessions and testing for certification are included.
